Hello again. I want to clear something up on what it means to be born on the cusp in astrology. This is another question that I get asked all the time in my one-to-one readings.
What does it mean to be born on the cusp?
The sun switches signs at a definitive moment, so, technically, there’s no such thing as the cusp. The sun’s in one sign or the other, and I can give you a definitive answer as to which one yours is in, during one of my Zoom readings.
The dates of the signs can vary from source to source, like websites and newspapers, and that’s because the day the sun switches signs can vary from year to year.
Then again, some astrologers don’t like taking such a black-and-white approach to astrology. Some might say that being born at the point one sign’s energy takes over from the previous one is bound to bless the person with a touch of both signs’ characteristics.
As for which sign has the strongest influence, the outgoing or the incoming, well that depends on other elements in the horoscope. Here’s an example using the sun’s move from Gemini to Cancer…
What does it mean to be born on the Gemini-Cancer cusp?
The Gemini-Cancer cusp is June 21/22, and if you believe that these two neighbouring sign energies bleed into one another, let’s see how that might shape the personality of someone born around this time (including 20 June and 23 June).
I happen to think that the energy of these two star signs blends very well together. The gentleness and intuition of the zodiac sign Cancer harmonise really quite beautifully with the Mercurial temperament of Gemini to make a true social whizz who’s also sensitive to others as much as themselves.
This cusp person can switch it up and shine when they have to but might be more home-loving and sensitive than your average Gemini and yet more restless than your average Cancer.
Having studied thousands of birth charts over the years, I’ve noticed that being born on the Gemini-Cancer cusp can make for a charming personality, someone who is good company, and who often has a strong knowledge of whatever they’re really interested or emotionally invested in. It’s like the intellect of Gemini fuses with the instinct of Cancer, and to great effect.
If they have more Cancer or water sign leanings in the chart as a whole and just a touch of Gemini, it might make them more intellectual and detached and less of a worrier.
It’s also worth noting that if you’re at the end of a sign, it won’t be long before what is called your progressed sun is in the next sign, and this will beef up this sign’s influence in your horoscope. Don’t worry if you don’t know what this means – I’ll cover it in a future blog.
If the chart is more air-sign heavy (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) with only a wisp of zodiac sign Cancer, I’d say that they’re also likely imaginative, sensitive and receptive – possibly with a psychic ability.
If you believe that this is the true meaning of being on the cusp, these people can find a middle ground more quickly. Gemini people like to flirt with people, danger and ideas, but the Cancer anchor likely makes them more homely, family oriented, protective and nurturing.
